We love this project because it’s pretty easy to do and are perfect for kids of all ages. Whether it is turkey season where you are right now or you would just love to have a craft project with a young child, this project will definitely be a lot of fun for the both of you.

To make some fun and colorful googly-eyed turkeys, you will need the following: plastic plates of varying colors, cardstock papers of different colors, regular glue (if you don’t have glue you can use paste or tape), a pair of scissors (school scissors are okay) and of course, several pairs of googly eyes.

How to make Googly eyes turkeys:

Step 1

The first step is to make the feathers. For each turkey, you will need about nine to twelve feathers. There is no right way or wrong way of doing this: you can make the feathers pointy or rounded, small or tall, it depends on your taste.

Of course, from our perspective, the bigger the feathers, the cuter your turkeys will be, so don’t hold back when cutting up those cardstocks! If you are having a tough time cutting the feathers, you can just go online and search for a feather template. You can then cut out the template, glue it over a harder cardstock and use that for cutting even feathers.

If this isn’t such an issue for you, then, by all means, freehand your feathers and you should be good to go. You can also add some details to the top of the feathers to make them look even more fun. Also, remember that you need to cut out a small wattle as well as a small triangle (for the beak). These will, of course, be placed equidistant from the pair of googly eyes.

When all of the feathers have been drawn out, it’s time to cut them. Use a pair of scissors to free the feathers from the cardstock.

Step 2

Arrange the feathers behind the plates by fanning them out. Again, there are no hard and fast rules with arranging the features on the plates. Arrange them the way that the arrangement pleases you. Use glue to attach all of the feathers in the order that you want. Let the feathers dry out.

After attaching all of the feathers to the colorful plates, it’s time to fix the face of the turkey. Glue the googly eyes where the eyes should be, followed by the wattle and the triangular cut paper for the beak. Put just enough glue on the wattle and beak so the cardstock doesn’t crinkle. You’re good to go. The finished product can be used as toys or decorations at home or in your child’s bedroom if you like.

Simple spoon people

If you have watched the latest Toy Story, you probably already fell in love with fork and spoon characters. Well, you are in luck because you can definitely create much more creative and complex spoon people at home, with the help of some paper and googly eyes.

For this project, you will need some plastic spoons (the number should correspond to the number of spoon people you want to create), construction paper (decide what colors are for the clothes), pairs of googly eyes, crafting glue, a pair of scissors, and some coloring pens.

How to make Googly eyes spoon people:

Step 1

The first step is to draw on the construction paper the clothes that your spoon people are going to be wearing. It can be a skirt and blouse for a female spoon person, and a pair of pants, a coat, and a hat for the male spoon person.

If you would like them to wear something else, then by all means, just draw what you think is appropriate for them. You can easily accessorize by drawing additional items – you can stick stuff to their head and body easily. You can even make arms and legs if you’d like, but that might reduce their appearance as stick people.

Step 2

When you are done drawing the clothes (remember that you can color the clothes with the coloring pens), start cutting them out. Cut them out carefully, one by one, until all of them are free from the construction paper canvas.

Step 3

Then all you need to do after is to use the crafting glue to stick the clothes to the spoons and you are done. The next step would be to glue the googly eyes on the heads – be sure to let these dry out properly before you give the spoon people to your kid to play with.

Some tips:

  1. In the event that you don’t like how construction paper looks, feel free to try other types of colorful paper, as long as they can get the job done. Our next best recommendation would be felt paper but if this is the case, be sure to use felt glue instead of crafting glue so the paper will stick properly to the plastic.
  2. Googly eyes can be enhanced by drawing around the eyes. The spoons have space around them so they can draw mouths, noses, beards, etc. Your kids are going to have a swell time drawing on the spoons because you can use plain alcohol later to remove any errors in the drawings and they can start anew.
  3. Again, if you would like to make your spoon people more complex, you can just draw additional items for them to hold.
