What is Labradorite?
Labradorite (also called bytownite) is a plagioclase mineral that has a Mohs scale grade of six to 6.5. It is slightly more robust than glass and metals that are commonly used for kitchen knives. Labradorite produces a visual effect or visual phenomenon called labradorescence.
Labradorescence is a form of Schiller effect, where microcrystalline structures diffract light to amplify color bands or colored structures within the mineral. Labradorite is a type of feldspar that forms in a variety of rock hosts, but most notably in anorthosite. Anorthosite is a class of igneous rock. Labradorite’s Schiller effect results in the diffraction of various colors, including yellow, green, orange, red, and blue.
The fantastic display of colors upon exposure to natural or artificial light makes labradorite one of the most appealing gems around, especially if you are into deeper and darker colors. Tumbled samples of labradorite will exhibit steady and considerable quantities of twinning or parallel lines of color. These colors are not necessarily identical to each other, and labradorite can display multiple colors at a time in the same sample.
Labradorite is not generally used for mass-marketed jewelry. Instead, it is used by specialist jewelry designers for custom sets of jewelry. Take note that not all labradorite will exhibit labradorescence.
Some of them will show aventurescence, which can be the result of minute chemical inclusions in the gemstone, such as copper. Aventurescence causes sharp reflections or flashes of light when light strikes the surface of the gem. Not having labradorescence doesn’t mean that labradorite will no longer be appealing or marketable.
Labradorite is a sort of latecomer in the world of gemstones because it is a relative discovery. By relatively new, we mean that it was only discovered in the 1700s in Labrador, Canada. After development, the gemstone caught on and was treated as a semiprecious gemstone that was fit for jewelry and other ornamental applications. Its mystical iridescence is the main reason why people became interested in them in the first place. According to folklore, labradorite owes its radiance to the aurora borealis. It is said that labradorite contains a bit of the aurora borealis. Bearing labradorite would be like holding some of the cosmos in your pocket.
Labradorite is also considered a “fire rock” by the Inuit people. Inuit legends state that the elder gods struck labradorite, which allowed them to travel to the sky. Fire and radiance form the core of the myths surrounding this enigmatic gemstone. Ancient healers and diviners used labradorite extensively for psychic, magical, and spiritual purposes. It is believed that by using labradorite, you will gain access to the outer realms or the realms beyond people’s living kingdom. This explains why labradorite was used extensively by shamans who dealt with the dead and communicating with spirits and the fields beyond our realm.
Labradorite is a highly regarded defensive stone. It can be used to create powerful talismans that can guard you against misfortune, curses, and psychic attacks. Labradorite can boost your auric shield, and prevent others from gaining access to your mind and spirit through psychic vampirism and other similar attacks. All-natural energies emanating from the user can be improved and transmitted at a much more powerful frequency with the help of labradorite.
One of the more exciting aspects of labradorite is that it increases the likelihood of better energetic transmissions; it also dramatically increases the probability of triggering your psychic abilities. For those who already have opened their psychic abilities such as telepathic communication and clairvoyance, your natural talents] will be strengthened and emphasized by labradorite.
Labradorite’s healing properties are nothing short of amazing. As we have mentioned earlier, labradorite provides primary protection by bolstering the auric shield. Your aura is a part of you – it is an emanation or generated energy field that is particular to your soul and the state of your chi or orgone (in another context). A person’s aura can tell a lot about him/her.
The aura can be used as an energetic shield with the right gemstone, like labradorite. A boosted auric protection can prevent unscrupulous individuals from punching a hole into your buffer and taking your energy from you. The same goes for spiritual entities that might have evil plans for you. These things do frequently happen because the spiritual world and the world of the living regularly interact.
Labradorite can help remedy different areas of the body, including the eyes and the brain. It is most helpful for people who are suffering from metabolic disorders as well as hormonal imbalances. Use this gem if you continuously suffer from menstrual cramps and other pains associated with the reproductive system. Like additional grounding and protective stones, labradorite is excellent for pain management. Why reach out to a ton of NSAIDs if you can use a more natural method of controlling pain?
Labradorite is also helpful for the circulatory system. It enhances blood circulations and improves the condition of inflamed or partially blocked vessels. As the cardiovascular system is quite close to the integumentary and skeletal system, labradorite also remedies flare-ups of gout and other types of rheumatism. Are you having trouble digesting food? This gem can help stimulate your digestive system to normalize its processes. Labradorite can help end constipation, IBS, and other digestive issues.
Other uses for labradorite include: improving your ability to hear and communicate with your spiritual guide/s, boosting your capacity to remain emotionally and spiritually centered no matter how hard things get, improving your access to spiritual realms and other non-human realms beyond our own, and improve your ability to self-empower.
For best results, place labradorite jewelry at a high point in the body (head, neck, upper torso). It is closely associated with the eyes and the brain, so it would be good to keep it near these organs so you can benefit from the subtle vibrational energy that links with the head explicitly.
